Invitation to comment on Draft Policy Position on the Conservation & Ecologically Sustainable Use of Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhinoceros (submissions due before 14 October 2021)

On 29 June 2021 the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment invited comments on her Department’s Draft Policy Position on the Conservation and Ecologically Sustainable Use of Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhinoceros.

The deadline for comment has been extended and interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft policy position before 14 October 2021.

The draft Policy Position seeks to establish objectives and outcomes towards achieving secured, restored and “rewilded” natural landscapes with thriving populations of elephant, lion, rhino and leopard, as indicators for a vibrant, responsible, inclusive, transformed and sustainable wildlife sector. It aims to provides a mechanism to enact other policies related to the recommendations of the High Level Panel (which Minister Creecy appointed in October 2019) through legislative amendments and other means.
