The White Paper on National Environmental Management of the Ocean was published as GN R426 in Government Gazette 37692 of 29 May 2014

Green Paper

This policy (published for comment under Notice 828 in Government Gazette 35783 on 30 October 2012) aims to protect and conserve the ocean over which South Africa has jurisdiction. Comments were due on 15 January 2013.

Everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation; promote conservation; and secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development.
