Draft Conservation Agriculture Policy

On 9 February 2018, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries published its Draft Conservation Agriculture Policy for public comment. The draft policy deals sustainable farming in South Africa, including alternative energy, soil quality, minimum tillage and other forms of conservation farming.
According to the policy, the system and approach of Conservation Agriculture is key in advancing adopted sustainable development goals on sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation and mitigation and land degradation neutrality.
Comments are due within 60 days of the publication of the notice. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries have posted a “written comments” template on its website.
A series of public consultation sessions will also be hosted by the Department.
