The Western Cape Premier assented to the Western Cape Biodiversity Act No. 6 of 2021 on 14 December 2021. As of January 2022, this Act is not in force yet and its commencement date is yet to be proclaimed.
Once in force, the Act will repeal a number of laws applicable in the province including The Sea Shore Act, The Mountain Catchment Areas Act, 1970, the Nature Conservation Ordinance, 1974, The Western Cape Biosphere Reserves Act, 2011 and others.
