Minamata Convention on Mercury, 2013

The Minamata Convention on Mercury is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury. It was agreed to at the fifth and final session of the International Negotiating Committee in Geneva on 19 January 2013 and signed by members on 11 October 2013. It will come into force when it has been ratified by 50 members. South Africa has not yet ratified this convention.
