Attorney

Tim joined the Pollution & Climate Change Programme in August 2017. He holds an LLB from the University of Witwatersrand and an LLM in Global Environment and Climate Change Law from the University of Edinburgh. Tim’s LLM thesis focused on carbon capture and storage technology in South Africa and the regulation of long-term liability. He completed his articles of clerkship at the Legal Resources Centre in Johannesburg, and was admitted as an attorney in 2014. Following his admission, Tim worked as a legal compliance consultant at Environmental Resources Management, including a contract period based in Oxford, UK, where he specialised in the implementation of the EU Directive on Energy Efficiency. Prior to joining the Centre for Environmental Rights, Tim served as a law clerk and researcher to Justice Bess Nkabinde at the Constitutional Court of South Africa from July 2016 – June 2017. Tim is also a FGASA qualified Field Guide (Game Ranger). Through the utility of the rule of law, he hopes to contribute to the realisation of section 24 of the Constitution and further advance South Africa’s constitutional project.
