Lara Wallis

Lara joined the Centre as a Researcher in July 2016. She is an admitted attorney, having completed her Articles through the Legal Resources Centre where she worked across a range of areas of public interest law, including mining and environmental law. Lara holds an LLB and an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Cape Town. During her studies, she also worked part-time at the UCT Refugee Rights Unit, the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit, and interned with the UNHCR in Cape Town. Lara loves nature and volunteered for a rainforest conservation programme in Costa Rica before commencing her Articles. In her free time she enjoys hiking, trail running and generally just being outside. Lara’s work in the public interest sector has fuelled her passion for ensuring the rights of vulnerable groups. As it is most often vulnerable groups that are affected by the actions of big corporations, Lara is excited about her role as a Researcher in the Centre’s Corporate Accountability and Transparency programme.
