One of the challenges communities face is a lack of information about their rights and the law that applies to mining. This report, produced jointly with Lawyers for Human Rights, provides a short and simple introduction to environmental rights in the context of mining. It introduces some of the important laws and documents that communities and individuals affected by mining should know about and have access to.

Everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation; promote conservation; and secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development.
