Climate Impacts in Southern Africa During the 21st Century

Climate Impacts in Southern Africa During the 21st Century

September 2021

The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) in partnership with the African Climate Alliance (ACA) and Vukani Environmental Movement (VEM) invite you to join the launch of a climate impacts report.

The late Professor Robert Scholes and Professor Francois Engelbrecht’s report, titled “Climate Impacts in Southern Africa During the 21st Century”, aims to explain what we mean when we talk about climate harms and threats to human rights that the 1500MW of new coal-powered electricity generation proposed by the government will contribute to.

This report is part of a series of expert reports that CER is launching in support of the #CancelCoal campaign, in which community organisations and the youth are challenging the government’s proposed procurement of new coal-fired power generation.

This comes at a time when South Africa needs to urgently transition away from coal to avoid the harms of the climate crisis, further devastating health impacts to coal-affected communities, and high costs to the economy.
