In this matter, Dzomo La Mupo, Earthlife Africa, Save our Limpopo Valley Environment, and groundWork are challenging the environmental authorisation granted to the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone (SOC) LTD (MMSEZ), by the Chief Director of Environmental Trade and Protection, and Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET). The environmental authorisation was granted with respect to MMSEZ’s proposed clearance of between 3868ha-8000ha of pristine land in Limpopo in preparation for the development of a 3 300 MW coal-fired power station and other heavy industrial activities.
This review application comes as a result of the MEC of LEDET’s dismissal of Earthlife Africa and others’ appeal.
