2023: Comments on draft NEMA Appeal Regulations

On 26 September 2023, the Centre for Environmental Rights submitted comments on the Draft National Appeal Regulations published for comment in Government Gazette No. 49189 of 25 August 2023 under Notice 3815 of 2023 based on our experience in applying appeal regulations, both in our own name and on behalf of numerous civil society and community clients.

2023: Comments on changes to the NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations and Listing Notices

On 4 August 2023, the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment published her intention to amend the Environmental Impacts Assessment Regulations 2014 and the associated Listing Notices 1,2 and 3. The proposed changes to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations are available here.

The CER submitted comments to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment on the proposed changes on 4 September. Our comments are available here.

2020: Proposed amendments to the EIA Regulations and Listing Notices for activities identified in terms of Section 24(2) and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act 1998

2019: Draft Amendments to the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Regulations

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy published draft Amendments to the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Regulations, 2019, on 28 November 2019 in Government Gazette 42870, GNR 1554.

The Centre for Environmental Rights submitted a Letter and Table of Comments to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy on 31 January 2020.
