2022: Proposed Regulations pertaining to the Exploration and Production of onshore Oil and Gas requiring Hydraulic Fracturing.

On 11 July the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment published Draft Regulations Pertaining to the Exploration and Production of Onshore Oil and Gas requiring Hydraulic Fracturing  (draft Fracking Regulations) under the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998.

The Minister also published her intention to prescribe Minimum Requirements for the Submission of Applications for an Authorisation, Right, Permit or Licence for the Onshore Exploration of Oil and Gas Intending to Utilise Hydraulic Fracturing (“the requirements”).

The Centre for Environmental Rights submitted comments on the draft Fracking Regulations and the requirements to the DFFE on 25 August 2022.
