The Department of Environmental Affairs has gazetted the National Strategy on Sustainable Development (NSSD) and Draft Action Plan for 2010-2014 for public comment.
The NSSD covers three main topics: directing the development path towards sustainability, changing values and behaviour, and restructuring the governance system and building capacity. The Draft Action Plan deals with our response to climate change, greening the economy, building sustainable communities, sustaining our ecosystems and natural resources and enhancing governance systems and capacity. The Department seems unsure about some of the targets and indicators in the Action Plan, since the document contains multiple question marks in various targets and indicators – ideal for public comment and input.
