Transvaal Nature Conservation Ordinance 12 of 1983

Geographical scope: Gauteng and North West (excluding the former Boputhatswana)

Regulations and proclamations made under this Ordinance 

  • North West Hunting Regulations (3 January 2017) (only applicable in the North West Province, and to remain in force until explicitly repealed under the North West Biodiversity Management Act)

This Ordinance will be repealed in as far as it relates to the North West Province when the North West Biodiversity Management Act, 2017 comes into force, and in so far as it applies to Gauteng if the Draft Gauteng Nature Conservation Bill, 2014 is passed.

Section 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996

Everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation; promote conservation; and secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development.
