Court proceedings

Sasol Synfuels (Pty) Ltd &  2 others v Minister of Water & Environmental Affairs & another (High Court, Gauteng Division, Pretoria) (Case no. 36444/14) 

On 21 May 2014, Sasol Synfuels (Pty) Ltd, National Petroleum Refiners of South Africa (Natref) and Sasol Chemiese Nywerhede Beperk launched review proceedings in the High Court (Gauteng Division, Pretoria) seeking to set aside various minimum emission standards published in terms of section 21 of the National Environmental Management:Air Quality Act, 2004

On 17 April 2015, the applicants withdrew the application and tendered the Department’s costs.

Earthlife Africa Johannesburg v Minister of Environmental Affairs, Department of Environmental Affairs and Thabametsi Power Project (Pty) Ltd

In this matter, Earthlife Africa is applying to court to set aside on review the decision by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) to grant environmental authorisation to Thabametsi Power Project (Pty) Ltd (Thabametsi) for the establishment of the Thabametsi coal-fired power station in Limpopo.
